When you consider the ability of the EcoTop and RecycleTop products to refuse moisture, and the fact that they are both products that have repairable and renewable surface colors and textures, there isn’t a way you permanently stain the counter top, including contact with raw meat juice (such as liver), citrus acids, juices, coffee, wine, and grease. EcoTop doesn’t show any affects with over 350°F but we’ d recommend staying below 375°F. Hot pots and pans are not the best for most kitchen counter top materials and although they will not ignite the EcoTop or RecycleTop products, they can possibly have slight discoloration.
Other paper based counter top manufacturers would lead you to believe that ALL paper based products fade over time and that it is normal, but that is simply not true. The main reasons KlipTech products do not change and fade over time, or with exposure to ultra-violet, are because we use more stable resins that don’t have an inherent ability to change without even having any exposure to sunlight at all as others use. The first thing you should understand is the EcoTop is the toughest against color change over time and will not darken or lighten as it uses a clear resin formula that is stable in nature and will resist any affects of UV exposure. RecycleTop is only offered in darker colors that don’t have noticeable color change over time.

Having been the first manufacturer to create a recycled paper composite counter top material, we’ve seen firsthand what can happen with non dark colors that do not use a clear resin formula, with exposure to UV rays.

Paper based products have had a long history of being a very durable and scratch resistant surface, however you can probably get any counter top product to scratch with the right amount of force and instrament. EcoTop however is different than most other paper based counter tops as it utilizes rapidly renewable bamboo fiber as 50% of it overall fiber and 1/3 of its overall product makeup, making it even more scratch resistant than any other paper based product you can find. Both EcoTop and RecycleTop are harder than wood products and are more scratch resistant than most solid surface products, we still recommend that they not be used as cutting surfaces. You should also note that scratches at any depth will not change the color as the products have the same color throughout the products.

Seams can be made looking very hairline or pencil line with clear adhesives, although some trade secrets suggest that adding fine dust particles from the sanding process of the tops, into the top layer of the seam adhesive, will disguise them even more so. You should also consider that all paper based products experience some slight color variance within the sheet and that placement of seams be considered in the design process.
EcoTop is layers paper compressed under a ratio of heat, pressure, and time. EcoTop uses a 50% 50% blend of post consumer recycled paper fiber and rapidly renewable bamboo fiber paper, impregnated with a clear water based resin formula. The product composition is 1/3 bamboo, 1/3 recycled paper fiber, and 1/3 resin. It is due to the clear water based resin system that we can make lighter colors like white and off white without having to worry about color change getting lighter or darker.

The EcoTop product is really not compared to other paper based products, even RecycleTop, as it uses a different fiber source than any other product, a completely different resin source, is offered in UV stable lighter colors, is more scratch resistant, is the same color throughout, and does not display a blotchy surface color.

RecycleTop is also layers of compressed paper, but uses a different make up of content than EcoTop and different ratios. RecycleTop uses only 100% post consumer recycled paper fiber but also uses a vegetable resin formula.

KlipTech is also the longest running solely sustainable building products manufacturer in North America. It’s history of developing recycled paper counter tops goes throughout most of the paper tops available today and has a lot to do with the reason why EcoTop is what it is.

The main differences between the products on a material stand point are that EcoTop uses a bamboo infused recycled paper fiber and brings it all together with a clear resin solution which enables it to be made in lighter colors and more UV stable colors. RecycleTop utilizes only 100% post consumer recycled paper fiber content and does not utilize bamboo fiber like EcoTop, which makes it more comparable to other darker color only paper products. RecycleTop differs from others in that there are not varying levels of recycled content.

Its pretty cut and dry with KlipTech products, every EcoTop color and product has the same amount of 100% post consumer recycled paper fiber & bamboo fiber and RecycleTop’s color offering is also all 100% post consumer recycled paper.

No KlipTech product uses ANY virgin tree fiber paper. Although it is often cheaper for virgin tree fiber paper, we feel it is important to offer only recycled paper products when you consider the impacts on air quality, water quality, and forest health. Others will tout the words FSC, recycled, rapidly renewable, and have catchy explanations of how predominant solvent resins are better than predominantly water resins but the bottom line is there is no guessing which colors offer recycled and which are not.
